Desminth Forte is a broad spectrum dewormer available by prescription used in dogs to treat tapeworms, hookworms, roundworms, and whipworms.
Composition : Each uncoated tablet contains Praziquantel USP -50 mg, Pyrantel Embonate
BP - 144 mg & Febantel BP - 150 mg.
Pharmacodynamics : Praziquantel works by causing severe spasms and paralysis of the worms’ muscles. This paralysis is accompanied - and probably caused - by a rapid Ca2+ influx inside the parasite. Morphological alterations are another early effect of praziquantel. Pyrantel acts as a cholinergic agonist. Its mode of action is to stimulate nicotinic cholinergic receptors of the parasite, induces spastic paralysis of the nematodes and thereby allow removal from the gastro intestinal (GI) system by peristalsis. Febantel act by blocking parasite energy metabolism leading to energy exchange breakdown and inhibited glucose uptake.
Dose : Praziquantel 5 mg/kg b.wt, Pyrantel Embonate 14.4 mg/ kg b.wt & Febantel 15 mg/kg b.wt. One tablet for every 10 kg b.wt . Desminth Forte tab is indicated for the treatment of adult dogs once in every three months. For Dogs in Farming areas and Breeders place or multiple Pets where more frequent deworming may be necessary as often as every two weeks. It may be decided based on doing Fecal test for Eggs and larvae.
Indications : Desminth Forte Tab is Broad Spectrum Anthelmintic Tablet indicated for removal of Tapeworms (Dipylidium caninum, Taenia pisiformis & Echinococcus granulosus) and removal and control of Echinococcus multilocularis and for removal of Hookworms (Ancylostoma caninum & Uncinaria stenocephala), Ascarids (Toxocara canis & Toxascaris leonina), and Whipworms (Trichuris vulpis) in Dogs. It is indicated for the treatment of Tapeworms (Taenia taeniaeformis), Hookworms (Ancylostoma tubaeforme) and Large Roundworms (Toxocara cati) in cats and kittens.
Directions for Use : Oral administration, the tablet(s) can be given directly to the dog or disguised in food. Access to normal diet does not need to be limited before or after treatment. Puppies should be treated at 2 weeks of age and every 2 weeks until 12 weeks of age. Thereafter, they should be treated at 3 months intervals.
Side effects : Diarrhea, Vomiting, Lethargy , Drooling and Decreased appetite.
Caution : Strict hygienic precautions should be taken when handling dogs or feces suspected of harboring E. multilocularis. Infected dogs treated for the first time with Desminth Forte Tablets and dogs treated at intervals greater than 28 days may shed eggs in the feces after treatment. The animal should be held in the clinic during this interval and all feces should be incinerated or autoclaved. If these procedures are not possible, the eggs can be destroyed by soaking the feces in 3.75% sodium hypochlorite (bleach) solution. All areas where the animal was maintained or in contact with should be thoroughly cleaned with sodium hypochlorite and allowed to dry completely before reuse. Do Not use in Pregnant Dogs and Cats.
Storage : Store in a cool, dry place at room temperature.
