Prednisolone is a corticosteroid drug with predominant glucocorticoid and low mineralocorticoid activity, making it useful for the treatment of a wide range of inflammatory and autoimmune conditions.
Composition :
PetPred 10/20 Tab : Each uncoated tablet contains Prednisolone 10/20 mg.
PetPred Syrup : Each 5 ml contains Prednisolone Phosphate IP eq. to Prednisolone 15 mg in a flavoured base.
Dose : In both Dogs and Cats, Anti inflammatory doses range from 0.2 to 0.6 mg/ kg b.wt up to twice daily. Immunosuppressive doses range from 2 to 6 mg/ kg b.wt up to three times daily. Doses for treating other diseases range between 0.2 to 6 mg/ kg. The duration of administration depends on the condition being treated, response to the medication, and the development of any adverse effects. Be certain to complete the prescription unless specifically directed by your veterinarian. Even if your pet feels better, the entire treatment plan should be completed to prevent relapse. Do not stop this medication abruptly; taper it slowly to avoid complications. Please consult your Veterinarian for the use of PetPred.
Pharmacodynamics : Prednisolone is a glucocorticoid, with lipophilic structure binds to its respective glucocorticoid receptor (GCR) located in the cytoplasm. It inhibits the release of signals that promote inflammation such as nuclear factor-Kappa B (NF-κB), Activator protein 1 (AP-1), nuclear factor of activated T-cells (NFAT), and stimulate anti-inflammatory signals such as the interleukin-10 gene. This makes inhibition of prostaglandin synthesis and additional inflammatory mediators. Glucocorticoids also inhibit neutrophil cell death and demargination as well as phospholipase A2, which in turn lessens arachidonic acid derivative genesis.
Indications: PetPred is recommended for treatment of allergies, inflammatory conditions, autoimmune disorders and cancers. It is also recommended for treatment of other conditions including adreno cortical insufficiency, high blood calcium, rheumatoid arthritis, dermatitis, eye inflammation, asthma, multiple sclerosis, uveitis, pyoderma gangrenosum, urticaria, angioedema, ulcerative colitis, pericarditis, temporal arteritis, vasculitis, acute lymphoblastic leukaemia, auto immune hepatitis, dermatomyositis and post myocardial infarction syndrome.
